Aspens Little Nell Restaurant and Hotel Gets New Commercial Kitchen Floor
We recently resurfaced the commercial kitchen floor you see here at The Little Nell in Aspen. This project presented a few significant challenges.
- Time – There was a small window of time available to restore the floor. There was no room for error.
- VCT Tile Removal – The tile had to be removed from the concrete floor. Some of it came up easily but many pieces were stubborn. We basically had to jackhammer the tile from the floor.
- Glue Removal – The glue/mastic had to be ground off the concrete.
- Concrete Repair – Once we ground the floor, the blemishes appeared. We had to patch all the cracks and repair areas where old drains existed.
- Cove Molding – We removed the old 4 inch high cove molding and replaced with a seamless cove molding 6 inches high.
- Polyurea Coating – We used 1/32nd inch sized decorative chips in the coating to match with existing kitchen flooring. We brought the coating up to the top edge of the new molding creating a seamless floor system that is easy to keep clean.
- Non – Slip, OSHA Compliant – We built in a non slip system that exceeds OSHA coefficient of friction guidelines
Our polyurea coating system is rapid cure enabling the floor to be used the day after completion. A significant benefit is that our coating does not contain VOC’s and did not disrupt ongoing operations of the restaurant or hotel. The completed project came in on time and within budget.
